Hair Loss Treatment:
Finding the Right Approach
Hair loss affects more and more people, regardless of age or gender. Lifestyle factors, stress, and environmental influences can all contribute to this issue, which can cause not only aesthetic concerns but also emotional challenges. Many people seek effective solutions to combat hair loss and revive their hair, but it’s crucial to consider how we approach the problem and which path we take toward recovery. How can you find the method that most effectively helps with hair loss?
1. TYPES OF HAIR LOSS
First, it’s important to clarify what type of hair loss are you experiencing. There are two main categories: normal and pathological hair loss.
Normal Hair Loss
This includes instances of hair loss that are related to some natural or temporary physical or mental changes. Examples include seasonal changes, periods of stress, lifestyle changes, or the aftermath of an illness. All of these can put strain on the body, which may temporarily affect the hair growth cycle. We can consider hair loss normal as long as it does not exceed approximately 100 strands per day.
Pathological Hair Loss
If you lose more than 100 strands of hair per day and this condition persists for longer than two months, you may be experiencing a more serious problem. Essentially, there are three types of pathological hair loss to distinguish.
Androgenic Alopecia – “Male Pattern” Hair Loss
This is the most common type of hair loss, occurring in both men and women. It is an inherited condition that typically appears in men in their second decade of life and women in their third decade. The exact cause of the disease is not entirely understood, but it is likely due to genetic variations resulting from the local effects of male hormones (androgens).
Female Androgenic Alopecia: This is a hormonal issue, primarily linked to decreased hormone production from the ovaries. It most commonly appears during menopause, but there are also younger patients suffering from PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). PCOS is a hormonal disorder characterized by the formation of cysts in the ovaries, menstrual irregularities, increased androgen levels, and fertility issues.
Diffuse Alopecia
Pathological hair loss includes diffuse alopecia, which involves hair loss that is not limited to a specific area. The extent and speed of hair loss depend on how many hair strands reach the end of their life cycle and fall out. The scalp is generally unresponsive, meaning there is no redness, flaking, itching, or skin atrophy. This category includes various conditions, such as postpartum diffuse hair loss in women.
Postpartum Diffuse Hair Loss: During pregnancy, high estrogen levels keep many hair follicles in the active growth phase longer than usual. After childbirth, when estrogen levels drop, these hairs suddenly transition to the resting phase, which can lead to diffuse hair loss, typically observed around the eighth week postpartum. Hair loss may take months to return to normal. A similar phenomenon is seen in women who stop taking birth control pills, as similar hormonal changes occur. Generally, no treatment is necessary for this hair loss, as hair regrowth occurs spontaneously.
Alopecia Areata – Patchy Hair Loss
Alopecia areata is very common and typically affects young adults and often children, occurring equally in both genders. It is characterized by one or more round or oval bald patches, with the scalp being unresponsive (mild redness may occur) and possible skin atrophy. More severe forms include alopecia areata totalis and universalis, which involve complete loss of body hair.
Post-COVID Hair Loss
It is essential to mention that hair loss after COVID-19 infection is becoming increasingly common. While the list of post-COVID symptoms is quite long, hair loss is unique because it generally does not occur during the acute infection but rather appears weeks or even months later. During the active infection, symptoms such as itching, dryness, or excessive oiliness of the scalp may be observed. Post-COVID syndrome, particularly prevalent in women and severe cases, can impose significant emotional stress, as hair loss adds to existing problems.
Hair loss after prolonged infectious or febrile illnesses is not uncommon. It may be linked to inflammatory conditions, the physical and emotional stress caused by the illness, and the depletion of the body’s energy and vitamin reserves. Hair loss following illness can last for months and may even continue for up to half a year.
2. DETERMINING AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS
The second step is to clarify whether the issue is related to the scalp or is hormonal in nature. This is important for establishing an accurate diagnosis, which will guide the treatment of hair loss.
Useful tools for determining the type of hair loss you’re experiencing include micro-camera diagnosis and Wood lamp examination, both available in our salons. With the help of 200x magnification, the micro-camera diagnostic allows us to detect and examine hidden abnormalities, such as micro-inflammations and the condition of hair follicles. It also manually assesses the scalp’s elasticity, hydration, and any pathological oiliness or dehydration. Meanwhile, the Wood lamp is used to identify bacterial or fungal infections of the skin and can detect pigmentation disorders in the skin.
Not only are external examinations important, but analyzing internal factors is also crucial. Therefore, various screenings and blood tests are also essential.
3. CAUSE OF MALE PATTERN HAIR LOSS
The cause of hair loss is due to the DHT (dihydrotestosterone) hormone that forms in the scalp, resulting from a genetically determined sensitivity to male hormones. DHT first suppresses the functions of hair follicles, leading to thinning of the hair strands, and eventually permanently shrinks them, meaning no new hair grows to replace the fallen-out hair. Male-pattern hair loss cannot be completely reversed, but with appropriate treatment, we can effectively combat hair loss and delay the process.
HARMFUL MEDICAL TREATMENTS of DHT
The effects of DHT are inhibited in the body using so-called DHT blockers. These can come in the form of tablets that induce strong hormonal changes and may have serious side effects, including the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and impotence. Given that the severity of side effects often outweighs the benefits of treating hair loss, their use is generally not recommended.
In many cases, side effects persist even after stopping the medication, as the nerves damaged by dihydrotestosterone can be permanently affected, and these problems cannot be resolved with the use of DHT blockers.
Perhaps the most well-known DHT blocker is minoxidil, which many use for its ability to achieve rapid positive changes; however, in the long run, it often exacerbates the problem. Minoxidil artificially stimulates hair follicles, which exhausts them over time. This artificial “doping” may seem effective initially, but as the hair follicles become increasingly depleted, the effects of the DHT blocker cease, leading to the destruction of the follicles. Therefore, the long-term use of minoxidil can be detrimental.
These chemical-based products are therefore not cost-effective in the long run. So, what can help with hair loss?
4. PROPER MANAGEMENT OF DHT
The solution lies in natural and non-chemical DHT blockers, treatments, and products that are free of chemicals. One such treatment is oxygen therapy, which helps strengthen hair follicles, improving cellular metabolism and regeneration, thereby aiding in the fight against hair loss. A proper diet, the use of dietary supplements, and the regular use of products containing plant-based DHT blockers can also be highly beneficial.
Natural DHT Blockers for Hair Loss
The two most effective ingredients against hair loss are Baicapil™ and AnaGain™.
Baicapil™ is composed of three plant extracts: Baikal skullcap, soybean sprouts, and wheat sprouts. Regular use improves hair density, reduces hair loss, and stimulates hair growth.
AnaGain™ is specifically developed to combat hair loss, with its main ingredient derived from pea sprouts. It stimulates the dermal papilla cells, which play a key role in regulating the hair growth cycle. These cells control the growth of hair follicles and the regeneration of hair strands, thus promoting hair growth.
Natural DHT blockers also include rosemary oil, which stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, thereby facilitating hair growth. Argan oil, rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, nourishes the scalp, further supporting hair growth.

OXYGEN THERAPY FOR HAIR LOSS
Oxygen is delivered under high pressure into the deeper layers of the skin where the cells and intercellular areas are located. This treatment not only aids in nourishing the deeper layers of the skin and renewing cells but can also be particularly effective for hair loss caused by hormonal issues, including androgenetic alopecia, diffuse thinning, or patchy hair loss.
The treatment stabilizes the growth phase of hair strands, reducing the number of hairs entering the shedding (telogen) phase. Additionally, oxygen therapy removes dead skin cells, allowing for more effective absorption of active ingredients. The even distribution of oxygen and active substances under pressure supports the natural functioning of the skin and promotes cell regeneration, helping to maintain the elasticity and health of the scalp. This method not only improves the condition of hair follicles but also helps reduce inflammation and fatigue caused by DHT, making it an effective tool for stopping hair loss.
Visible improvements after just a few sessions provide reassurance for guests, which can also contribute to accelerating the healing process.
